A Phrasal Verb a Day #155 - TO PRONOUNCE FOR / AGAINST

Nothing to do with pronunciation or how things are said - these expressions actually relate more to legal English.

To pronounce against

To make a judgement against someone in a court of law.

E.g. The judgement was pronounced against three officers.

The court pronounced against the speaker's decision.

Judges must ensure that the total amount of the penalty pronounced against a person for multiple offences remains fair.

To pronounce for

To give a judgement in favour of someone or something in a court of law

Would the court pronounce for the prisoner's extradition from the UK
